Flag Day

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress authorized the creation of a flag for the United States.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson set June 14 as Flag Day.

Irving Berlin wrote the song “God Bless America” and in 1938, Kate Smith introduced the song to a national audience on radio. This video comes from the 1943 movie “This is the Army” which was designed to encourage Americans on the home front.

During the 7th inning stretch of the 3rd game of the World Series in 2013, Retired Naval Petty Officer, 1st Class, sings “God Bless America.”
